I've just learned of Dr. Womack's passing and am saddened by the loss. His teaching style was like none other. He influenced me to read more, question what I don't undertand, think for myself and explore all possibilities. A snapshot of him has traveled with me and remains posted on my bulletin board in my office, today. Thank you, Dr. Womack!

Dr. Womack was over the Upward Bound Program in 1966.

I first met Bob fifteen years ago. I only distinctly remember two things from my "New Faculty Orientation" at that time: listening to Dean Earl Keese describe Tennessee's unusual undergraduate history requirements and Dr. Bob welcoming us to MTSU and extolling the virtues of Middle Tennessee. In particular, he advised that the scenery driving out towards Woodbury would lighten anyone's spirit. A few weeks later, desperately needing a break from work, I took Bob's advice and drove out to Woodbury.

Along with his son Ricky, Dr. Bob Womack was great mentor and inspiration to me during my several years living in Middle Tennessee. His knowledge in American history and the Tennessee Walking Horse left me spellbound during many delightful talks we had together. But to me, Dr. Bob's greatest qualities were human, his exemplary character and an extraordinarily warm and generous personality that still has a big influence on me today, many years later.

To all of the Womack family, you guys are in my prayers these days. What a beautiful life and incredible legacy. To have lived so long and to have lived so well is an incredible legacy to both enjoy and to share. God Bless You. Jeff Clark

It was always interesting to be in the presence of Dr. Womack. I was a student many years ago and still remember the cigar smoke and the thought-provoking discussions during his class. I hope my classroom for 30+ years reflected some of those ideas and that I made my students learn to think deeply on their own as well. I know he touched the lives of many, either directly or indirectly through those of us who were influenced by him.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Dr.Bob. He was absolutely one of my most favorite people in the entire world. When he first began dialysis at home, we often sat together and shared stories about our families. Even after I left the clinic we stayed in touch with each other. We were both so tickled that my little girl was born on his birthday this past year. I can't imagine not hearing him say, "You're a living doll!" again. I will carry him in my heart always. He was a wonderful man.

Dr. Bob was an inspiration to all who worked with him. I have had the privilege of working with him for over 20 years. He exemplified the true professor and he will be missed. Prior to MTSU I taught two of his grandchildren at Campus School (David and Dana). Your loss is felt by everyone in the Department of Elementary & Special Education at MTSU.
